Poking around Johto Route 29 for a new Pokemon, Cleo spies something flitting through the trees. There is silence at first, then a faint squeak that is sharply cut off. Ah. Sounds like a hunter has found its prey.

Cleo is... not strong. Or really very fond of the outdoors, in general, though she's going to have to get over that. But she's a little better at being sneaky - she hasn't had much practice, but being small is actually an asset there. She creeps through the trees in the direction of that flicker of movement and the suddenly-silenced squeak. A successful hunter sounds like it might be a good addition to the team, and if it's just caught something, it should hopefully stay in one place for a little bit, if she can avoid scaring it off. Perception: DJ9HQsXf3d6+1
Cleo tromps as carefully as possible through the woods, eventually finding an odd, pink Pokemon chowing down on some poor Rattata. It stops in its feast briefly to look your direction, then resumes eating.3d6+1

Well, so much for sneaking. Cleo blames her boots. They're better for walking through the wilderness than most of her shoes but they are not very sneaky boots.
At least she still doesn't seem to have scared it off, which is good. She rubs her chin thoughtfully - what an odd-looking Pokémon. Looks pretty fearsome, though, with the stinger and claws. There's one good way to figure out what it is - she flips open her Pokédex to scan it. "Let's see what your name is..."

The Pokedex pings, identifying the target as Gligar. Kinda out of place too, as they seem to prefer high cliffs.

"Well, that's strange." There are those big mountains off to the... whichever direction that is of the route, that she can occasionally see through the trees. Maybe it came from there? But she's not sure what would have brought it all the way out here.
She steps closer slowly, bending down a little to get closer to the Gligar's level. "You're a pretty long way from home, mighty hunter. Did you get grounded? Or do you just like to travel?"

It finishes gulping down the last bits of Rattata and turns to face Cleo. It doesn't seem to understand the question.

"Are you lost? Or did you come down here because you wanted to?" Communication with Pokémon is kind of iffy at the best of times, and Cleo's trying to figure out how to persuade the Gligar to come along with her. If she just tries browbeating it like she usually does with people there's a risk of scaring it off or making it angry enough to attack.
She rests her hands on her knees as she tries to get her point across. "If you like to see new places, you'll get farther with a trainer, you know."

Gligar blinks at you. It looks at the remnants of its meal, then back to you. It motions with one claw like "I go with, you feed me?".

Well, so much for high aspirations. Apparently this Gligar is very food-motivated. Cleo blows out a breath and nods sharply. "Of course. I could hardly bring you along and not feed you, could I? A mighty hunter like you has to keep up your strength!"
Cleo reaches into her bag for a Pokéball, and shows it to the Gligar. "So, what do you say? I'm planning to have supper in Cherrygrove City tonight. Would you care to join me?"

Naturally, a Pokemon would not likely be aware of what humans call their 'large, communal nests'. Nevertheless, Gligar seems satisfied with the offer of easier-to-acquire food.
Gligar is Female, level 1, Rash, with Sand Veil.

Cleo doesn't really care whether the Gligar knows what she's talking about, honestly. She's grandstanding by reflex more than anything. She touches the ball to the Gligar to capture it, then releases it again to consider it thoughtfully. "Female, hm? A mighty huntress, who can fly a long way and pounce from an unexpected direction... Let's call you Amazon. A queen and a knight combined."Cleo leans down and sketches out a design in the dirt - a Rapidash head wearing a pointed crown. "Like that. I think it suits you." She smiles at the newly-dubbed Amazon before returning her to her ball. Time to get going again.

While heading back towards the road, Cleo very nearly loses a foot to a small hole. Out of the hole comes an angry, chittering scorpion-like creature. Not like Gligar though, it's something else. Ah, the Pokedex says it's Skorupi; a Bug/Poison type. Apparently you inadvertently stepped in its lair and it didn't appreciate that.
